Amina and Sarah Said were two American sisters whose tragic murders in 2008 drew national attention and highlighted issues of honor violence and domestic abuse within their family.
Amina Said, born on March 2, 1989, and Sarah Said, born on March 1, 1990, were the daughters of Yaser Abdel Said and Patricia "Tissie" Owens. The family lived in Irving, Texas. Amina and Sarah were bright and ambitious students, well-liked by their peers and teachers. Despite their seemingly normal lives, the girls were subjected to severe restrictions and control by their father, Yaser, who held traditional and conservative views.
