Cai Xia Liao, 45, had been threatening and blackmailing her former lover, Brian Mach, for months after realizing he would not marry her. The two met in China in 2012 while Mach and his wife were separated. When Mach tried to end the relationship, Liao became enraged, making threats such as, "If you leave me alone I will get revenge: kill your wife," and warning him in November 2014, "What you’re going to see will be most tragic, it’s all because of you."
