H.H. Holmes

Herman Webster Mudgett (May 16, 1861 – May 7, 1896), also known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes or H. H. Holmes, was an American con artist and serial killer active from 1891 to 1894. He had a long criminal history that included insurance fraud, forgery, swindling, bigamous marriages, horse theft, and murder. His notorious crimes took place in Chicago during the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.

Despite confessing to 27 murders, including some individuals who were actually still alive, Holmes was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of his business partner, Benjamin Pitezel. It is believed that he also killed three of Pitezel's children, three mistresses, one mistress's child, and another mistress's sister. Holmes was hanged on May 7, 1896.
